The West Coast General Hospital Foundation was established in 1990 to help support a healthier future for residents of the Alberni Valley by raising funds to help support projects and new equipment needs that improve the treatment and care of patients at the West Coast General Hospital.   It is by making a donation to the Foundation that you will be helping to ensure the highest quality of health care is available for your family, friends and neighbors in the Alberni Valley area.
The WCGH Foundation owns and operates the Alberni Lifeline monitoring program.                             Click here to view our Newsletter

Coming Home

Our new donor recognition picture, Coming Home, is a reproduction of an original watercolor painting by Port Alberni artist Michael Cleary, commissioned by the West Coast General Hospital Foundation.  This will be a limited edition print of two hundred copies which have all been personally signed and numbered by the artist.  This amazing view at the Port Alberni canal features the Lady Rose ship in the foreground and Mount Arrowsmith in the background.

  • Donations of $2000 will receive a 28” x 19” framed print

  • Donation of $500 will receive a 15” x 10.5” framed print.

To have a closer look at this beautiful watercolor, we have one located in front of the Foundation's donor recognition wall, just inside the main entrance to the hospital.

Helping Improve Lives

Sometimes an opportunity arises that enables the Foundation to improve an individuals life in an amazing way. Last year we were approached by an elderly gentleman, Hans Reisel, who was leaving town and would no longer be needing his motorized wheelchair. This incredibly kind and giving man asked the Foundation if we could take the scooter as a donation and see that it was given to someone that could benefit from it. Our Physiotherapy department at W.C.G.H. was happy to hang on to it until an appropriate candidate was discovered. Early this year that person was found. Patrick Power was the fortunate recipient of this wonderful gift. Patrick recently turned 88 years old and up until a couple of years ago, Patrick independently lived on his own and was able to drive his car whenever he needed to go anywhere. Patrick’s life would take a big change in October of 2010 when he suffered a fall and broke his left leg. While his leg was healing he stubbed his right foot and within a few weeks developed such a bad infection that part of that foot had to be amputated, leaving him unable to drive anymore or even walk more than a few steps. This series of events left Patrick restricted to his home, reliant on family whenever he needed anything, becoming a prisoner of his circumstance. Receiving the scooter from the Foundation has put a whole new outlook on life for Patrick who can now go to the store when he wants to, go to appointments, or just go for a cruise in the sunshine and meet up with friends, giving him back his independence once again. The Foundation is thrilled to be in a position to make such an incredible difference in someone’s life.

Happy cruising Patrick!

THE 2012 FIRE FIGHTER CALENDAR

For the first time, the Port Alberni Professional Fire Fighters have agreed to do a fundraising calendar.  This is a collaborative effort between the West Coast General Hospital Foundation and the Fire Fighters, with all proceeds from the sales of these calendars going to the West Coast General Hospital Foundation. These funds will be used for the purchases of equipment for our local hospital not otherwise funded by the government, to better enhance patient care and comfort.
