The Grand Parade

Walk with us on September 18, 2021!

The Grand Parade (TGP) is a family-friendly fundraiser Team Walk held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 that helps support local charities who provide essential care and service for aging Canadians. If your team can't walk on Event Day, you are free to walk a week or two earlier.

Your participation in The Grand Parade is a moment to take to the streets across Canada and publicly honour aging friends and family, fundraising on behalf of local charities who support them.

This pandemic has revealed how our aging population is so often overlooked. Your participation in the TGP Team Walk this year is more important than ever - by walking and fundraising for your local TGP charity, you are declaring solidarity with their purpose and service while making a valuable financial impact.

Why We Walk

The Grand Parade is a moment when Canadians step out to publicly honour aging friends and family, and to fundraise on behalf of the charities who support them.

We walk for our parents, dear aunt, favourite uncle, younger sister, and great-grandparents.

We walk to shine the light of appreciation on those who go before us. We walk to celebrate their contribution, and to declare their place in our hearts.

We walk as people and organizations committed to serving when age begins to demand its due. In a time obsessed with the now and the new, we treasure the experience, wisdom, and character of our elders.

We walk together, past obligation and duty, through concern and then care, all the way to dignity and respect. Proudly, publicly, we proclaim our commitment and love.

The TGP Team Walk

This year we can’t gather together in large groups as we hoped, but we’re not letting Covid-19 stop us from fundraising for our aging family and friends! On Event Day, September 18, 2021, we’re self-organizing into smaller, Covid-19 friendly teams where we can walk together safely. Do I have to walk with my team? No, and it's okay if you don't want to. Your personal safety in the midst of COVID-19 is critical. You can register, join a team of friends, and fundraise with them if you'd like, but on September 18, you are free to walk on your own if that's what you prefer. The COVID-19 rules for gathering are in constant flux (as are our own preferences) so do what's best for you!

The TGP Team Walk, as we’re now calling it, allows you to register a team and fundraise as always, but with the freedom on Event Day to:

· walk the distance you want

· when you want

· where you want

Most teams will decide to walk in the morning, choosing between 1 km or 5 km distances, likely on a paved park pathway or equivalent. Many will end with a small safe Covid-19-friendly celebration afterward (lunch, tea, barbeque, etc.).

There is no registration fee to participate in The Grand Parade, but most walkers raise $250-300 or more in support of their charity.

Revenue

The money raised this year will be shared between the Emergency Department expansion (70%) and Westhaven (30%). We have to include the seniors.

TGP T-Shirts

For adults who raise $150 or more, we’ll be thanking you for your efforts with a sweet, super-soft TGP T-shirt that you’ll be proud to wear (and maybe even brag about)!
