We received $50,000 from the RLR (Ramsay, Lampman, Rhodes) Lawyers for the Emergency Department expansion. Through this donation, RLR is continuing to support our community.

Left to right: Brittany K. Rousseau, Whitney Mosley, Peter C.P. Behie, Karen Maika (WCGH Foundation Treasurer), Shane Landreville and Thomas Senecal.

Born and raised in Port Alberni, Marilyn worked in the Human Resources department for 25+ years at the old hospital for Island Health until she retired. She volunteered extensively throughout the community through her sorority Beta Sigma Phi. She was a well-known volunteer for many events in the Alberni Valley.

We received $5,000 from the Lomba Family, who have owned since three generations the Redford Motor Inn and Dimitri’s Restaurant. We had a great promotion in February with Dimitri’s which resulted in this donation. Call 250-724-4522 to order your favorite meal instead of cooking… LOL!

This donation of $4,645.00 along with an earlier donation of $200,000 is made by the Khalsa Diwan Society of Port Alberni. The Khalsa Diwan Society of Port Alberni opened the first Sikh Temple in the region in 1962 at 3551 12th Avenue. It was the first place of worship and a gathering place for the South Asian community. The temple was closed in 2019 due to dwindling membership. The proceeds from the sale of the temple and remaining operating funds of the Society have been donated to the Hospital Foundation. The temples history and this donation speak to the contribution of the early South Asians and their contributions to the community. This donation is the best way to honour those who built the Temple and to keep their memories alive for ever.

On behalf of the Ultimate Fishing Town Labour day Salmon Derby, committee member, Carolyn Jasken presented a cheque for $5,000 to the West Coast General Hospital Foundation for the Emergency Department expansion in memory of Brian Dalziel. The donation came from the sale of 2021 derby shirts and a portion of ticket sales. Receiving the cheque was Chris Francey, business director for the WCGH foundation. Also present were Brian’s wife Deb, their kids Brody, Carly, Cole and their spouses and kids.
